Are pecans and walnuts the same


The Pecan grows mainly in southern North America and is a distant relative of the walnut, which can be recognized by the shape of the nut.

Historical name

Only after a long history did the Pecan their current name. The native American Indians ate them in the 16th century Pecan in abundance. The tree just grew in the wild, and they didn't have a name for the nut. The Spaniards called it a "kind of walnut". Then the French gave it the name “La Pacanière”. After all, they were called Pecan.
