Change the display name

They use their display names whenever you sign in to your account. This is also the name you will see on your Windows 10 devices and users when sending email. This name can be different from the display name of the local account.

Here's how to change your display name when you're signed in to your Microsoft account:

  1. On the Your Information page, sign in to the Microsoft account website.

  2. Choose under your nameEdit name. If no name is listed, chooseAdd name.

  3. Then chooseTo save. Names that contain blocked words or phrases are not allowed. If you get an error when entering the name, try a nickname.

If the display name doesn't change immediately, or if the old name continues to appear in email, your information may still be cached. To quickly update the name, go to your local account. Then sign back in to your Microsoft account.

The display name does not change your gamertag. If you'd like a new gamertag, see How to change your Xbox gamertag.
