Don’t - what you should definitely avoid when memorizing
But let's start with what you shouldn't do when memorizing:
Are you one of those people who learn all of their knowledge the evening before the exam and do it really well with it? Interesting. The only problem here is that the excessive information that was swallowed up in one fell swoop leaves as quickly as it came. So nothing gets stuck, which is unpleasant precisely because you will certainly need the brutally absorbed and forgotten material at a later point ...
Memorizing quickly won't work when you're exposed to constant distractions. Here is a short talk with a fellow student, as a quick chat on WhatsApp or looking at the girlfriend's latest Snapchat story - these things are poison for your learning success. Studies show that it takes more than 20 minutes to focus properly after an oh-so-brief distraction.

Perhaps you have also heard of the so-called loci method, which is one of the absolute Jedi tricks of memorizing: It has been used since ancient times and is very promising. As the name Loci (Latin plural of “Locus”, space, place) already suggests, this is about connecting things that you want to remember with a place in your apartment and internalizing them in this way. The point is to create a memory route in your head.
How could that work?
You come into the apartment and link the entrance hall with Napoleon's birthday, for example. The kitchen stands for his first war, and you link the bedroom with his last banishment, etc. The loci method was also used as a cult detective in the series “Sherlock” by Benedict Cumberbatch. And a little bit of brains from Sherlock certainly can't hurt your exam results, right?
Another great trick that can help you learn is passive learning. Write down terms that are difficult to remember, for example on a post-it note on the refrigerator or in the mirror. Create a learning poster and stick it on in a clearly visible place. Because even if you do not learn consciously, your subconscious takes on the information through constant, unconscious repetition - you will see!
Create the right atmosphere
Who has the leisure to learn when there is complete chaos around them? The best thing to do is to clean the table in the truest sense of the word and organize your desk.
Because external chaos is often synonymous with internal chaos. Then make sure that the environment is quiet and that cell phones and the like are in sleep mode. Then there is still a question of what type of learner you are: Can you concentrate better or worse with music?
On YouTube, for example, you can find concentration-enhancing, relaxing "studio music". So-called alphawaves are also highly recommended in this context. These are also sounds that improve your memory and concentration. Of course, you can also find them on YouTube. If this is not for you, then of course absolute silence is not wrong either.
We all know how difficult it is to remember things when you are stressed. Of course, an attitude that doesn't matter to me is out of place here, as a little tension can certainly promote the learning process, but always try to keep an overview and not let yourself be disturbed.
Provide the right basis
Again only monster energy drinks, butts and muesli bars at the start? This may not be the best idea. With a balanced and healthy diet, ensure that your brain performs at its best in the long term and does not only live from the sugar and caffeine rush. Ideas: fruit, yogurt, whole grains, green tea, nuts.
