"How long does the toner in laser printers last"

so with me it has lasted 3 years (Brother HL1250 / TN-6600)

I'm also very little printer and every time I had something to print, this crap didn't work (Canon ink). I turn on the laser and it does what it should, never more ink ;-)

Kind regards
chris

Toner is unproblematic, it will last yeah yeah. More problematic are the coating of the photoconductor drum and the rubber materials, e.g. B. with the drum scraper (cleans the drum after each printing process, comparable to the functionality of a windshield wiper). But it doesn't all happen overnight.

Since such a low-cost centrifuge does not master a standard such as PCL or even Postscript, the printer almost certainly only works with the operating systems that are up-to-date NOW. Somewhere here at Nickles there is an article that Microsoft is already working hard on "Windows 7". Assume that your device will then only be a bunch of electronic scrap if you want to switch to an operating system that is up-to-date in three or four years. So the toner or the components I mentioned shouldn't be your problem.

If you want to avoid that, a used laser printer with PCL would be the much more sensible variant, it will still run in 15 years - available on eBay from just under EUR 30 plus shipping ...

Thanks for the answers.
I think I'll keep XP Prof for another 2 years. Actually everything works what I want and is also reasonably stable. Only with the second Servicepac for Vista will I seriously think about using Vista on my work computer. So far, the driver situation of Vista is still too bad. And Vista itself has flaws that I cannot accept. If the samsung SCX-4200 laser printer also has vista drivers, that's enough for me for the next 3 to 4 years with one toner charge. Then maybe a multifunction laser printer will be able to print in color for 100 euros. The quality is not that important to me as I don't do anything business with it. Just a quick black and white copy, scan something and of course print out a document. That's enough for me. I have to do without the luxury of color.

But it is important that the toner remains usable for a long time and does not lose its life after 2 years. So far, the Lexmark printheads have always dried up and were still half full. This makes printing very expensive. Ultrasonic cleaning didn't help either. And third-party ink certainly nothing. Ink is just nothing for my printing habits.

Then hit the printer, it's okay.

Compared to a dirt mark printer, it can only get better ...

Hello Manfred!

You can't go very wrong with your targeted laser print. If you don't want to print out tens of pages every day, you are more than well served. Still better than these super-cheap inkjets. The nice thing about these laser printers is that you can control your toner consumption in a targeted manner, even if the printer is not in operation for four weeks or more. You have no problems with the toners. Switch on and print - and that's good.

I never want to be without my laser printer again - I have had excellent experiences with the toners. The toners last at least 4 years and even longer - nothing dries up.

My laser printer was bought in 2001 for the same reasons and still has the first toner. Prints like the first day ...

All right, then I'll strike here on Monday and buy the printer. is cheap and test reports are not bad either, except for the few interfaces and the scanner, which has problems with book scanning. But that's okay. Unfortunately there are no Vista drivers but as I said I have XP for 2 years. So thank you for the good advice. Good forum here.
Greetings Manfred

Unfortunately I have to disappoint you, he has drivers for Vista. Incidentally, I gave the device to my father at birth and he is very satisfied with it.

At most, new toner. The included one is only enough for 1000 pages: - \ (Just in case you haven't read this fact in the test report ...)

The part should be ok especially since it also has a scanner.

For your information: I still have an HP Laserjet 4L tinkering around with me. It was built in 1996 or 97 and has now used 4 or 5 toner cartridges. I have to admit, it is used at least once or twice a week.

if he prints 2 documents every week
Documents! = Number of pages. And two pages come together very quickly, especially if you want to make a copy from time to time in addition to printing ;-)

The printer is no longer available at Plus, it was just a bait.
The shelf for it was so puny that maybe there was only room for 3 printers. Maybe 10 more printers in the warehouse and that's it. You have to come at 8 a.m. and then work your elbow to the printer when the shop opens to get one. I asked, there are no supplies. All rubbish.
but the printer is available on the Internet for a similar price. Still have to pay shipping fees. At Technoland, the thing costs 199 euros. I haven't looked at the media market yet.

Just for information
Greetings from Manfred

I had the one from Saturn ... if I remember correctly 129 or 139 € (September / October 2007)
