Laser and radio frequency: gentle treatment of varicose veins

Not many health insurance companies will cover the cost of laser treatment for varicose veins. In addition to conventional surgical methods, modern catheter-assisted heat procedures (laser, radio frequency) are now available for the treatment of varicose veins. They are carried out on an outpatient basis and are gentler than conventional procedures. This method, which is suitable for many patients, is not part of standard care.

In the past, therapy for varicose veins consisted of surgical removal of the affected veins. In the laser treatment of varicose veins, the vein is obliterated with a laser and a suitable disposable probe. It is an outpatient procedure that eliminates the need for hospitalization.

Nine out of ten adults have at least slight changes in the leg veins, mostly so-called spider veins. With increasing age, the frequency and severity of venous disorders increase. Varicose veins are signs of venous disease that can result in embolism or chronic wounds.

There are two types of vessels in the human blood system: the arteries that carry oxygen-rich blood into the body and the veins that carry oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. While the blood in the arteries is still driven by the pumping movements of the heart, the drive of the blood in the veins is taken over by venous valves. If these venous valves show a defect, blood congestion occurs in the affected vessel, the vein bulges - varicose veins develop. These are particularly common in the legs, but can occur anywhere in the body.

Varicose veins never regress on their own and, if left untreated, usually cause medical problems sooner or later. Varicose veins should be treated as early as possible. If left untreated, there is a risk of chronic venous weakness with painful phlebitis and after years of suffering there is a risk of an open leg - a painful chronic wound that is usually tedious and tedious to heal.
