Can someone tell me about SAP
A traineeship at valantic as a stepping stone into SAP Consulting
Christian Schneider is 25 years old and started as a trainee SAP S / 4HANA at valantic in September 2019 with the aim of becoming a SAP developer & SAP consultant. Today he talks about his experiences, the challenges of starting a career - especially in times of Covid19 - and why he particularly values the individual development opportunities at valantic.
How was your start at valantic?
The start at valantic was very warm, relaxed and uncomplicated. By actively addressing the HR colleague on Xing, I became aware of valantic. The message immediately left a positive impression on me, as it differed significantly from the previous inquiries. The subsequent phone call and the personal conversation on site were totally relaxed due to the relaxed atmosphere and I immediately had a good gut feeling.
After I was accepted, I was of course very much looking forward to my practical start. On my first day at work, I got to know all of my fellow trainees. We got along very well from the start and quickly grew together as a group.
What I particularly liked about the professional induction was that our mentor took a lot of time for us, and we also received a wide range of training courses in SAP consulting and programming.
Last but not least, my personal highlight was the valantic onboarding event. It was great to get to know the valantic Group even better, both professionally and with regard to the corporate culture.
What do you value about valantic?
At valantic, I particularly appreciate the family atmosphere and the transparency. The colleagues are super helpful and open, so that I can approach someone at any time if I have any questions. The regular internal info talks give me all the important information about current developments and future plans. Even as a trainee, I had the opportunity to contribute new suggestions and ideas, which I personally like very much.
In addition, I particularly appreciate the flexibility with regard to my personal development. At valantic, the development paths are anything but rigid. This gives me the opportunity to find out where my strengths, skills and interests lie. Thanks to the flexible approach, I can gain experience in both programming and process consulting - even though I only mastered the basics of programming at the beginning.
What are the challenges of your job in SAP Consulting?
Entering a career in consulting definitely brings some positive changes with it. While a good end result counted for project work during the studies, the focus is now on the individual process steps and task packages. Every customer project requires structured project planning and implementation, because this is the only way we can guarantee optimal implementation. I see acquiring new knowledge in the field of IT project management and accompanying our customers in current SAP consulting projects as very exciting and at the same time challenging.
What do you do as a trainee?
As a trainee in SAP Consulting, I get a detailed insight into the world of programming and consulting. At the beginning I took part in both internal and external training courses at SAP in Walldorf and took on smaller tasks in my project team. Currently I am responsible for the programming of interfaces that enable the smooth exchange of data between SAP and the external customer systems. At the same time, I deal with the area of master data, which is available for later test runs in the customer system. In addition, I can expect other exciting tasks in the next few months, for example I have the opportunity to participate in a Fiori app development.
