Are the rich afraid of Ocasio Cortez?

The rich fear of socialism

It was a real themed ride and then the multimillionaire Donald Trump said in his State of the Union address: "Tonight we renew our determination that America will never be a socialist country." After speaking about the situation in Venezuela, he also rejected "calls" for socialism in his own country.

This is a popular fear tactic of the Republicans, who are so tender attempts at more active social policy and discredit the Democrats (Venezuela! Socialism!), But it works less and less. According to a Gallup poll last summer, 57 percent of all Democrats and 51 percent of Americans under 30 see socialism positively.

In view of the increasing social inequality in the country, current surveys show, in some cases, clear majorities in favor of greater taxation of America's millionaires and billionaires. The defiant "never socialism" of Trump is therefore apparently also for the concern of America's rich. "I think he's scared of us, that's good," said Democratic socialist and Democratic Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after the speech. Socialism is still a long way off in the US, but the concern of the one percent rich is there.
