Elvis Wiki

Elvis is considered the most successful solo artist in the world. The American singer is one of the most important representatives of rock and pop music of the 20th century. It is estimated that over a billion of his records have been sold. The boy was interested in music from an early age, in particular in "black" rhythm & blues as well as in "white" country music. The mixture of both genres was his unique selling point, which earned him a lot of attention. Last but not least, it was his dance style that drove women crazy and called moral guards in prudish America of the fifties. In total, Elvis released 60 original albums in his 23-year career. There are also numerous EPs and greatest hits albums.

Elvis biography

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, USA. He grew up as a well-protected only child and was involved in the choir at an early age, which fueled his love for music. No sooner had Elvis graduated from high school than he started working in a machine repair service. There he earned the money for a professional recording studio, in which in 1953 he made his first record with the songs "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartache Begins".

Then everything happened in quick succession: producers and industry experts were fascinated by the bluesy voice and so Elvis toured a lot with colleagues from the scene in the years to come and recorded other pieces. In 1956 the singer was finally signed by the record label RCA, which also made him known nationwide through television appearances. The King of Rock’n’Roll was born and shaped an entire generation of teenagers.

Elvis Presley also made big hits on the big screen with films like “Love Me Tender” and “Jailhouse Rock”, but in 1957 his career was interrupted when he was drafted into the army. At that time he also served in the 3rd US Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany. In the course of his career Elvis reinvented his music again and again in order to be able to counter the rapid developments in the scene again and again with something new. The "British invasion", for example by the Beatles, had a decisive influence on Elvis' style in the mid-sixties.

In 1967 Elvis married his long-time girlfriend Priscilla Beaulieu, and a year later they both had their only daughter, Lisa Marie. However, the marriage only lasted until 1973. In the last few years of his life, Elvis gave numerous concerts in Las Vegas - a burden that Elvis apparently tried to compensate with pills. He ultimately died in 1977 at the age of 42 on his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Doctors now assume that a severe chronic bowel disease could have been linked to his sudden cardiac death. Even today, many conspiracy theories about his death are circulating on the Internet and on Facebook.
