Chelsea Jose Mourinho to be sacked

Tottenham Hotspur sack manager Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur has apparently surprisingly parted ways with coach Jose Mourinho. The Premier League club confirmed that on Monday after first The Athletic and The Times reported about it.

"Jose and his coaching team were part of us in one of the most challenging times in club history," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is quoted as saying: "Jose is a real professional who has shown incredible resilience in times of pandemic." Mourinho will always be welcome at Spurs, the press release said.

To Times- Tottenham reportedly responded to the sporting downturn in recent months with the dismissal, as a result of which Spurs slipped to seventh place with just one win from the last five games and thus run the risk of missing the Champions League again. Six game days before the end of the game, the gap to fourth place (West Ham) is five points.

It is still unclear who will inherit Mourinho in the Spurs coaching chair, initially Ryan Mason will take over the training of the professional team. The 29-year-old was an active player for Spurs himself and had to end his career early after a head injury.

Mourinho took over Spurs in November 2019 after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked. "The Special One" had won 45 of their 86 competitive games. In the Europa League, Tottenham under Mourinho surprisingly failed in the round of 16 to Dinamo Zagreb. Subsequently, Mourinho had sharply criticized the mentality of his team.

Mourinho historically bad at Tottenham

Nonetheless, the Spurs have the chance to win a title again for the first time since 2008 in the League Cup final against Manchester City next weekend - but without Mourinho on the coach bench, for whom it is the third dismissal from a Premier League club one after the other.

Previously, the 58-year-old had to leave Chelsea (second term) and Manchester United. However, Mourinho had not done as badly as at Tottenham, even with the Blues and Red Devils. In this season, the Spurs have lost 13 games under Mourinho - a negative record for the Portuguese. The 1.77 points per game are also the worst value of his coaching career.

*A previous version of this news included a rumor that the Mourinho dismissal was due to an alleged protest against the Super League. This was a misjudgment of this rumor on our part. We apologize for this error.
