The Finnish manufacturer HMD Global has presented six new Nokia smartphones, which at the same time herald the launch of new product lines. There are now three new series that combine devices with a very different focus.
In future, Nokia smartphones will be sorted into the X, G and C series, with the X series containing the top products. The devices in the series have a three-year update guarantee and mostly have special features such as Qualcomm processors and Zeiss cameras. The Nokia X20 and Nokia X10 start here. The G series with the Nokia G20 and Nokia G10, on the other hand, focuses on solid mid-range smartphones with a long battery life. Users can find affordable entry-level smartphones in the C series. These include the Nokia C20 and C10.
X series with Nokia X20 and X10
At the top of the new smartphone series from Nokia is the X series. Both the Nokia X20 and the Nokia X10 transmit via 5G, bring a quad camera with Zeiss optics in a round arrangement and, according to the manufacturer, not only receive security updates for three years, but also new Android versions for three years. Android One based on Android 11 is used ex works on the devices, so that users * have a clean and tidy interface without unnecessary third-party apps. A new camera mode called Dual Sight Multicam also makes it possible to take pictures with two cameras (front and rear) at the same time in order to capture several sides or different angles.
The Nokia smartphones belong to the middle class. The new X20 is the current top smartphone due to the better camera and memory equipment. It is available in the colors Midnight Sun and Nordic Blue as well as in memory variants with 6 GB RAM or 8 GB RAM and 128 GB memory each. From May, the Nokia X20 will be available from 399 euros.
The Nokia X10 is slightly cheaper with prices starting at 319 euros. Buyers get 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The smartphone can be bought in the colors Forest and Snow from June.
G series with Nokia G20 and G10
The Nokia G20 and G10 smartphones of the G series belong to the lower middle class and cost less than 200 euros. The equipment is limited to the essentials, the performance is sufficient for common smartphone functions. Both models come with a 6.51-inch display that has HD + resolution. The battery also has the same capacity with 5050 mAh each, which, together with the minimized equipment, should ensure a long runtime of up to three days.
However, the two Nokia smartphones in the series differ in terms of processor, memory and camera equipment. A chip from Mediatek works in both, but HMD Global uses the more powerful Helio G35 in the G20. Compared to the Helio G25, it has a slightly higher clock frequency and also supports camera sensors with a higher resolution. The Nokia G20 is therefore better equipped with a quad camera with a 48 megapixel main sensor. The differences in memory can also be relevant for the purchase decision, after all, the Nokia G20 has twice as much storage capacity and one GB more RAM than the Nokia G10.
With both models, users have to do without dual-band WiFi. They only transmit in the 2.4 GHz band. 5G is also not included in this price range. But the manufacturer also delivers the G series with Android 11. Again, this is a version of Android One.
The Nokia G20 with its better equipment starts at a price of 169 euros. It will be available from May. The Nokia G10 costs only 139 euros and will be in stores at the end of April. Both Nokia smartphones are available in Night, a black and blue, the G20 also in Glacier (white) and the G10 in Dust (purple).

C-series from Nokia - the very affordable entry-level
The Nokia C series is very simple. It only offers the essential smartphone functions. On the other hand, the prices of under 100 euros are also very cheap.
In terms of size and resolution, the displays of the models are very similar to those of the G-series models. But that's where the similarities end. Buyers of the Nokia C20 and C10 only get a 5-megapixel camera on the back and one on the front. The capacity of the battery is rather low at 3000 mAh, but should be sufficient with the minimized equipment. The memory configuration is also very manageable and should already pose problems for many apps.
Only the Nokia C20 supports LTE, while the C10 only transmits via GSM and HSPA. Users should be careful here, as the providers switch off the 3G networks in many places. You also have to do without NFC and a fingerprint for security. The chips mentioned in the table are models from the manufacturer Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum). They have been specially developed for entry-level smartphones and only integrate the weaker Cortex-A55 cores with a low clock frequency.
In the end, we can only recommend the two Nokia C-series smartphones as replacement devices or for making calls. Apps like WhatsApp should run reasonably smoothly, but operation should be slow and cumbersome overall.
