Kena: Bridge of Spirits

  • Release: August 24, 2021
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4
  • Regular price: 39.99 euros

That's what it's about: In Kena: Bridge of Spirits we are a guide for lost souls. Together with the little beings "Rots" we stand against a dark force. The game has a wonderful style that is reminiscent of Pixar films.

Playfully, however, it goes in a direction that will especially inspire Zelda fans. Because we control Kena through explorable environments, solve puzzles with the help of the reds and fight the opponents with quick attacks.

Okami HD

  • Release: December 12, 2017
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 19.99 euros

This is what it's about: In Okami HD, the optically revamped new edition of the original that appeared in 2008, we slip into the fur of the wolf deity Amaterasu and free a Japanese-inspired fantasy kingdom from a dark threat.

However, we are not expecting a mere Zelda clone, but an action-adventure that takes the mix of fighting, exploration and puzzles established by Zelda as a model, but comes along with its own spin.

Okami's unusual style goes back to the Japanese woodblock print, and the title is artistic on a playful level too. Here we fight and puzzle with a brush, learning a wide variety of brush techniques in the course of the story.

Blossom Tales

  • Release: December 21, 2017 (Switch)
  • Platforms: Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 14,99

Swords, shields, bows, dungeons and cephalopods - Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is playfully very much based on the Zelda games from the old SNES and Game Boy times. Anyone who played A Link to the Past, the original Link's Awakening and Co. back then, will indulge in pleasant nostalgia.

This is what it's about: In the role of the heroine Lily, we join the ranks of the Knights of the Rose and help them to put a nasty witcher to flight. To do this, we fight and puzzle our way through typical Zelda dungeons to find three legendary ingredients that should support us in our endeavors.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition

  • Release: November 22, 2016 (PS4, Xbox One), April 2, 2019 (Switch)
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 19.99 euros

This is what it's about: In Darksiders, as a war, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, we free an end-time world from demons, but we also fight against the powers of heaven.

The Warmastered Edition by Darksiders is a graphically enhanced remastered version for current consoles.

Darksiders is often referred to as "Zelda for Adults" and that hits it pretty well. Similar to Link's adventures, we have to find certain items in order to advance. We discover chests with keys and fight nasty end bosses. You can read what exactly Darksiders does so well in the special from colleague Tobi.

  • Release: 26th September 2017
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 19.99 euros

This is what it's about: Hob manages completely without dialogues. The plot is told solely through the interaction with the mysterious planet, on which we find ourselves in the role of a mysterious, sexless figurine.

On a playful level, everything ultimately boils down to - very typical for Zelda - to open up another way to get to previously inaccessible places and to free the world from the pink goo and the nasty creatures that come with it. For this we puzzle, jump and fight our way through the landscape in iso view.

How well is it playing?
Raised in the test

  • Release: 29 May 2018
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 19.99 euros

This is what it's about: Hero Will desperately wants to become a hero and throws himself breakneck into procedurally generated dungeons and beats up monsters and nasty bosses.

At heart, Will is not just an adventurer, but primarily a trader. What is special about Moonlighter? We have a shop in our village and sell items there during the day that we retrieve from dungeons at night. We are always faced with an important decision: Which goods do we sell and which do we keep in order to be forged with better weapons and armor?

  • Release: 3rd April 2018
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS, Android (& PC)
  • Regular price: 9.99 euros

This is what it's about: In the best Zelda manner, we beat bushes, trees and opponents to kindling in the 2D action adventure Minit, while we repeatedly have to solve small object and environmental puzzles and in between encounter characters that are as wacky as they are charming.

What is special about it? After just 60 seconds, our digital life ends and we start the game all over again. However, we are allowed to keep collected coins with which we can acquire additional life energy or important objects. Little by little, minute by minute, we are opening up another piece of the game world.

Oceanhorn - Monster of Uncharted Seas

  • Release: September 7, 2016
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS (& PC)
  • Regular price: 14.99 euros

This is what it's about: In Oceanhorn we sail in a wooden boat across the ocean from island to island in a little boy's clothing to banish evil from the world - greetings from Wind Waker!

Like its role model, Oceanhorn relies on the elements of fighting, exploration and puzzles, whereby we are constantly acquiring new equipment with which we can make previously inaccessible areas accessible.

Each of the 14 islands also contains various additional missions, which will give us EP if we are successful, and we can also look for hidden extras. So there is a lot to do!

1:22 Anodyne - Classic Zelda-like reminds of old times

  • Release: September 19, 2019 (PS4), February 28, 2019 (Switch)
  • Platforms: PS4, Switch (PC & iOS)
  • Regular price: 9.99 euros

This is what it's about: Anodyne takes the games of the 16-bit era as a model and lets us explore a dark, surreal fantasy world full of monsters and puzzles as the white-haired hero "Young".

However, Anodyne is not as classic as it sounds: Although the title uses Zelda basic elements, it brings with it many ideas of its own. Instead of a sword, for example, we swing a broom that we use to crack puzzles. For example, we collect dust and use it to build a boat.

Swords of Ditto

1:32 The Swords of Ditto - Launch trailer for the RPG shows cute co-op action

  • Release: April 24, 2018
  • Platforms: PS4, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 14.99 euros

This is what it's about:The Swords of Ditto is a visually very charming action adventure in the footsteps of The Legend of Zelda, in which we have to hunt down a nasty witch. In terms of puzzle design (far too easy!) The game does not come close to its source of inspiration, but it still promises entertaining fun.

Developer onebitbeyond has now even listened to one of the biggest criticisms: A free update has removed the permadeath feature, which means that the adventure is now much more relaxed.

Ittle Dew 2+

  • Release: 15th November 2016
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch (& PC)
  • Regular price: 29.99 euros

And speaking of colorful and cuddly - Ittle Dew 2+ for Nintendo Switch must of course be mentioned in the same breath.

This is what it's about: In the action adventure game by the Swedish studio Ludosity, the heroine Ittle and our companion, Tipsie, are stranded on an island and have to find eight parts of the raft to be able to leave them again.

Main character is stranded on an island, has to find eight objects ... exactly! We already know this concept from Link's Awakening, and Ittle Dew 2 packs it into a charming action adventure in small format.

Blue fire

  • Release: February 4, 2021 (Switch), June 25 (PS4, Xbox One)
  • Platforms: Switch, PS4, Xbox One

That's what it's about: In Blue Fire we travel through the abandoned kingdom of Penumbra. There we uncover the secrets of the long-forgotten land. To do this, we explore temples and skillfully complete the platformer inserts. The main character also has a sword at hand. With this we swing through opponents and nasty bosses. The whole mix of the game is very reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda.

  • Release: 2021
  • Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S (Launch Exclusive)

That's what it's about: Tunic is a 2D Zelda game style action adventure game. We steer a little fox from the isometric view through a colorful fantasy world. There we fight opponents, find new items to be able to reach new areas and buy new weapons with the collected money.

  • Release: 2021
  • Platforms: Switch (Launch-Exclusive), PS4, Xbox One

This is what it's about: The apparently peaceful world of Baldo is haunted at night by nasty black slime with sharp teeth. Even apart from these unwanted visitors, there seems to be a lot going on in the universe. That's why we explore the environment as a lovable hero, solve switch puzzles, avoid traps and fight everything that gets in our way.

In addition to the Zelda gameplay, Baldo impresses above all with his style. Because the whole game is kept in the animation look of the famous Studio Ghibli. Anime fans in particular are optically picked up here.
