Why is petroleum used for Vaseline
Mineral oils in cosmetics: good or bad?
A closer look at the ingredients of many cosmetic products reveals that they contain mineral oils. Last but not least, a well-known cream in the blue can is based on these fats. Are Mineral Oils Harmful? The fact is: mineral oils offer a number of advantages. But only a few for skin health. Aromatic hydrocarbons (MOSH and MOAH), which were discovered in products containing mineral oil, are also of concern.
What are mineral oils and where do they come from?
Mineral oils are obtained from petroleum, similar to gasoline or diesel. They are of course filtered much further until they only contain certain hydrocarbons. The result is a transparent oil, which is why it is also referred to as white oil.
How to recognize mineral oils in cosmetics
Identifying mineral oils is very easy. If you discover one of these terms in the context of the ingredients, then the product contains mineral oils:
- Mineral oil
- Paraffinum Liquidum
- Paraffinum Subliquidum
- Cera microcrystallina
- Microcrystalline Wax
How do mineral oils work in cosmetics?
Mineral oils offer several benefits for use in skin care products. They are very easy to work with and particularly durable. In contrast, vegetable oils in the cream can easily become rancid and require additional protection. This is not necessary with mineral oils. They are artificial and have an endless shelf life. An important point for many manufacturers: mineral oils are very inexpensive.
When used, they have the advantage that they cause virtually no allergies. This also has to do with the fact that mineral oils, as products of petroleum, are alien to our body. That is why they only penetrate into the top layers of the skin. There they create a kind of film that immediately seals the skin. This stops the skin from losing water and makes the skin feel soft on the outside.
Our choice: cosmetics without mineral oils
The sealing of the skin is the problem, however. The skin can no longer breathe properly and becomes sluggish. The skin's natural regeneration processes are slowed down. Do we use creams containing mineral oil to provide relief, e.g. For example, to provide dry skin, we need to be aware that we are only achieving a short-term effect. Under the protective layer of mineral oils, the skin remains just as tense and stressed as before.
Since the mineral oils cannot really penetrate the skin, they are also not suitable for transporting vitamins and other active ingredients. They are therefore ruled out for care products with a real anti-aging effect.
MOSH and MOAH - New pollutants in mineral oils?
There is another reason why not using mineral oils is advisable. A current study by Stiftung Warentest has shown aromatic hydrocarbons in all of the products tested. In short, these are called MOAH (Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons) and MOSH (Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons). MOSH and MOAH are pollutants that are potentially carcinogenic, i.e. carcinogenic.
The extent to which MOAH penetrates the skin has not yet been conclusively assessed. In any case, lip care with mineral oil should be avoided. This is simply swallowed, whereby the harmful MOAH get directly into the human organism.
For us, a good skin cream must work in harmony with the skin and strengthen its natural function. Mineral oils, as substances foreign to the skin, have no place here. Although they offer short-term effects, the skin suffers from the mineral oil film.
Vegetable oils, which consist of triglycerides, offer a much better alternative. Our skin is supported with these natural oils. So there is z. For example, sebum, the protective layer of the skin produced by the sebum glands, is made up of 41% from these oils.
The aim of effective cosmetics should be to replicate the structure of the skin. The best cream is therefore skin-identical. We recommend creams based on pure phosphatidylcholine, the main component of every human cell. For example, structures can be created in cosmetics that replicate the structure of the skin. This is the basis for a real depth effect.

Healthy skin ages more slowly and looks more beautiful.
We are true to this philosophy to this day. We combine the basic building blocks of the skin with high-dose, pure active ingredients. No complicated grooming rituals. We rely on honesty, transparency and only dermatologically sensible products.
