How leather cracks

M sports package suspension - crackling and crackling in the back of the interior

  • Hello,

why could it be that with an M-package 5 series the hat shelf and apparently the leather or the back seat crackle, crack and crunch. I'm about to buy one, but it has the above symptom. Now I do not know whether the body is slowly beating softly due to the hard chassis or what this could be.
    Do you have similar experiences?

  • So my predecessor of the current one was an E39 with the complete M-Sport package and thus also with the chassis. I can't remember such a crackle that you describe. There was dead silence.

Perhaps someone has had a different experience here in the forum.

  • mine cracks in the back too. I think it's the foldable rear seat. Does your "maybe-future" one have them too? Put it on and then drive ... I finally have to try it. I think I remember the cracking wasn't there when I once had a bike in the back ...

  • I have "only" an E39 530 dA Touring with a complete M-package .... but nothing "creaks" there either .....

But what I have sometimes heard about "Knerzen" (not only at BMW) is that parts of the leather upholstery "rub against each other" and then cause this "noise" ......

Take a look and "grease the points of contact" could help.

  • I think that's normal, the vehicle is harder, twists more ... it lies incredibly well ... but that also has its disadvantages. The tendency to rumble is certainly also greater.

We still have an E39 with M chassis. However, only with partial leather trim. Heavenly rest!

  • Hello!

I also have an E39 with M sports suspension ... the rear crackles / cracks every now and then like with the Nik31 ...

When I rolled over the back seat at the weekend, the cracking was gone ... I have to take a closer look. Oh yes, I have no leather but the Alcantara from the sports package.

  • Thank you in advance for the answers. Then I hope that it is not serious and that the matter is done with a thumb full of milking fat or bending the mounting points of the rear seat bench. I'll keep you up to date - maybe next week I'll be more often in the 5er forum

    We hope so.

  • My E39 also has this creaking, but since I don't have a foldable rear seat, I assume that it comes from the leather rear seat.

Unfortunately, the noise is very difficult to locate, unless someone else drives the car.

  • Hi,
I have M-chassis, folding rear seats and leather, but no creaking.

I don't want to spoil the fun of the new car, hopefully soon, but it won't be the last noise ...

Unless you're not as sensitive as I am

That's exactly what I had on my test drive. At first I thought it was the rear blind, but that came from the leather seats, my assumption that the headrests rest on the seat and cause the creaking with every movement. Unfortunately I couldn't try it anymore, didn't have time.

  • So MY sound doesn't come from the leather. It's way too loud for that and always a clear "clack" .... either it's the pick-up points on the back seat (I still haven't observed it more closely - keep forgetting) or it comes from the chassis or wheel bearings ...

  • tataa !! There it is, the Z3 replacement
Thanks to him, I'll be the one with the leather creaking and a few smaller stories -Forum already managed.
