Ingredients for 4 servings

500 G Flour
2 TL Dry yeast
1 TL sugar
1 TLsalt
2 Tbsp olive oil
130 ml Milk, lukewarm
200 ml Whole milk yoghurt, natural
1 TL baking powder

Recipe preparation

  1. For the typical Naan bread from India mix the yeast and sugar with the lukewarm milk and let stand until the yeast has dissolved in it (should take between 10-15 minutes).
  2. Then mix flour, baking powder, salt, milk-yeast mixture, oil and yoghurt and work into a dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 50 minutes.
  3. After the resting time, knead the dough again on a floured work surface and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape or roll thin cakes, drizzle with plenty of olive oil, place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, cover again and let the cakes rest for around 30 minutes.
  4. Then bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees (top-bottom heat) for about 15 minutes.
  5. The naan bread can also be fried in a coated pan (without fat). Fry the bread on both sides until it bubbles up and has the desired color.

Tips on the recipe

The bread tastes lukewarm if you also serve it with a garlic sauce, a chilli sauce or ghee (= Indian clarified butter).
