Final spurt for the "Dresden Spring 2020" poetry award

Dresden, January 28, 2020 (tpr) - The closing date for the poetry competition “Poetry Prize Dresden Spring 2020” is approaching. The prize is awarded by the Fördergesellschaft Gartenbau Sachsen and the Dresden City Libraries as part of the “Dresdner Frühling im Palais” flower show. We are looking for the most beautiful new spring poem. Authors can submit their own, previously unpublished poetry on the subject of "Blooming Times" until February 5th.

A jury made up of editors from the municipal libraries selects the five best poems. These will be presented during the exhibition in the Palais and afterwards in the central library. The author of the winning poem will also receive an invitation to the grand opening of the exhibition and the opportunity to present his work there.

Other prizes include annual tickets for the municipal libraries, entry tickets for the “Dresden Spring in the Palais”, entry tickets for the Dresden Fortress and a shopping voucher from the Rülcker nursery in Dresden. Those interested can find information about the competition and the conditions of participation at www.dresdner-fruehling-im-palais.de.

“Dresden Spring in the Palais” can be experienced from February 28th to March 8th in the Palais in the Great Garden. With tens of thousands of flowers and plants, it is the most important show of its kind in Germany. Under the motto "Blooming Times", the gardeners and florists involved are this time inspired by different epochs and milestones in Saxon and European cultural and gardening history. The patron of this year's edition is Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer. ■

About the Dresden Spring in the Palais
The Dresden Spring builds on a great tradition: the magnificent Dresden flower and plant shows were once world-famous. Large horticultural exhibitions were held in the Elbe city as early as the 19th and 20th centuries. They established the metropolis' reputation as a European center of garden art. The first Reichsgartenschau in 1936 holds the record number of visitors with over three
Millions of visitors from home and abroad. In 2006, on the occasion of the city's 800th anniversary, the “Dresden Spring in the Palais” was held in its present form for the first time.

Via the Fördergesellschaft Gartenbau Sachsen mbH
The Fördergesellschaft Gartenbau Sachsen, based in Dresden, supports all branches of horticulture and its operations in professional, economic, technical and cultural terms. Funding consists, among other things, of holding gardeners 'and florists' fairs as well as holding exhibitions, flower shows and trade fairs as well as seminars, training and information events. In addition, it promotes the next generation of professionals and advises the professional companies organized in the State Horticultural Association of Saxony, including around 300 vegetable and ornamental plants, retail, perennial and cemetery nurseries as well as tree nurseries.

Via the Dresden City Libraries
The Dresden City Libraries form a network of 22 libraries in which 750,000 media are offered. In terms of both demand and social relevance, educational support is by far the most important task of municipal libraries.
The new central library is in the best city location in the Kulturpalast. In addition, there are 19 branches in the city network, the virtual branch eBibo as well as the mobile services with a modern mobile library and the social library work with the voluntary bookkeeping service. www.bibo-dresden.de
