The health benefits of turmeric are numerous. It has strong anti-inflammatory effects, powerful antioxidant, fights depression, natural heart healers, brain function and memory enhancers. Studies have also shown that one of the compounds in turmeric can also help prevent Alzheimer's disease.

Health benefits aside, it's also one of the nicest spices around. I always keep a glass on hand to toss rice dishes, chicken dishes - and now my breakfast smoothie.

Turmeric goes wonderfully with citrus fruits, and this smoothie is perfect when you are at the door to face the day.

Turmeric Citrus Fruit Drink

Makes 2 drinks.

Ingredients:

1 cup of orange juice

½ cup of water

2 celery stalks, roughly chopped

2 lemons, juiced

1 orange, juiced

1 carrot, peeled and roughly chopped

1 Granny Smith apple, pitted and roughly chopped

2 teaspoons of turmeric

¼ inch grated ginger

½ teaspoon of kosher salt

Mint, for garnish

Manual:

Put all ingredients in a blender and stir until smooth.

Garnish with mint.
